Funeral Grant

Funeral Grant is paid on the death of an insured person, an invalidity, or age pensioner, or his/her spouse or a dependant child (under age 16 or under age 18 if attending school or University full time, or an invalid) to any person who has met the funeral expenses of the deceased, or who gives the Director an undertaking in writing to pay the whole or part of the funeral expenses of the deceased.

 

WHO QUALIFIES

 

 

Anyone who is responsible for the funeral expenses of the deceased.  The Insured person must have been insured for at least twenty-six (26) weeks.

 

AMOUNT OF BENEFIT

 

The current maximum Funeral Grant is $4330.00. On the death of a dependant child it is paid on the following scale:

On the death of the spouse of an age pensioner, invalidity pensioner or insured person the Funeral Grant is $2165.00.

 

WHEN TO CLAIM

 

  • The claim for Funeral Grant must be submitted no later than six months after the death of the Insured person, or his/her spouse.
  • The claim form must be accompanied by the death certificate and all receipts for the funeral expenses. The receipts MUST be in the name of the person making the claim or an authorized representative.
